There are no words to express our sorrow and pain at the incredible destruction that has taken place in our nation. We are certain that we need not elaborate on what happened. Surely you have seen and read about this horror through the media, too. While donations to the Red Cross and other international organizations are necessary for short-term aid for those in the disaster area, such relief organizations can do nothing specifically for our brothers and sisters of the Body of Christ who are in the affected areas.
Through our nation-wide church network, we are still trying to get a grasp on the situation of how the churches in these areas have been affected. From the little we have been able to learn, however, many of them have suffered significant damage. Some of them have had their church buildings obliterated. Some are completely destroyed or unusable. In Japan, the building that holds the sanctuary is almost always also the parsonage. It is also an indispensable meeting place for believers and a testimony to the surrounding communities. We hear a silent cry for help, as these situations can make or break the future of evangelism in Japan. The Tohoku region is the least-churched region in all of Japan. These churches need all of the help that we as the family of God can give them, both in a physical and a spiritual sense, and they need it quickly. We desire to send those who are suffering our love as a show of unity for the non-believing community to see. Please offer of your time by specifically praying for the churches in the affected areas. And please offer of your finances through the Earthquake and Tsunami Disaster Area Church Relief Fund. The All Japan Revival Mission will distribute these donations directly to the churches that have been affected by the earthquake and tsunami. We ask for your help.
